According to an entomologist, the next time you see a spider in your house you shouldn’t kill it because they are an important part of your indoor ecosystem.
Spiders in your home aren’t typically aggressive or dangerous. They may actually be providing services like eating pests – some even eat other spiders. A great benefit of spiders is that they eat mosquitoes, which can carry diseases.
But what about if they bite you? Well according to the entomologist, almost all spiders are venomous, but the majority of them have venom too weak to cause issues in humans, if their fangs can pierce our skin at all. Bites from spiders are extremely rare. There are a few species we hear about, like widow spiders and recluses, who have killer bites. Realistically, even their bites are uncommon and rarely cause serious issues.
So, instead of smashing the spiders in your home, try to capture it and release it outside. Or if you can’t stand to be around spiders, cover it with a cup and have someone that can remove it from your home!
