So apparently Mariah Carey said in an interview that she bathes in milk as a “beauty treatment.” Now personally I would prefer to enjoy milk with some Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruity Pebbles or some Honey Nut Cheerios, but hey, to each their own. Now apparently dermatologists back up bathing in milk and say it does have numerous benefits.
The benefits of bathing in milk for your skin including sloughing off dead cells, reducing wrinkles and tightening skin tissues. Vitamin E neutralizes the effect of free radicals, which are molecules that cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. They also damage collagen, or the connective tissues that keep your skin together. Meanwhile, Vitamin D has been shown to minimize acne, increase skin elasticity, and lessen the appearance of dark spots. Vitamin D and vitamin E will also help accelerate how fast the skin repairs itself from UV rays, wind, sun, contaminants and pollution according to a dermatologist.
Now for the important part, how to make the perfect milk bath. Dermatologists say it’s better to use warm milk because it will penetrate the skin faster than cold milk, but warn against staying in the bath for too long maybe about 15-minutes. They also say that the best milk to use is buttermilk because it’s high in fat. Now I won’t be trying this anytime soon because like I said I prefer my milk over cereal but if you give this a try, let me know how it goes!
