Jefferson County Board Accepts Donation To Help Families Buy Homes

The Jefferson County Board officially and unanimously accepted a $50,000 donation from HBC Services, Inc. that will be earmarked for to help families in Jefferson County to buy homes.
The donation from HBC Services was done through the Jefferson County Economic Development Consortium. The JCEDC already has an existing service, called the Home Buyer Counseling Program, which is designed to help new home buyers in the county.  The board has a policy that it must formally accept any donation over $5,000, and since this was technically a change to the county’s 2018 operating budget, the acceptance motion also included an amendment to the budget.
County Administrator Ben Wehmeier tells WFAW news about the donation:

Also Tuesday, the board took several individual actions on semi-related related issues regarding county-owned property.  First, the board sold the Highway Department’s former satellite shop in Ixonia for $150,100 to the Hugh Reynolds Group, LLC and sold the former satellite shop in Lake Mills for $140,000 to Chandler White. Each buyer was the highest bidder for the properties.  Additionally, the board took three actions regarding the Human Services Department building and grounds. First, it approved a $8,135 contract with Eagle Enterprise Excavating to remove and replace concrete surrounding the department’s equipment shed; second, it approved a $36,205 contract with London Lumber and Construction to install new steel, insulation and interior lining the department’s equipment shed; and third, it approved a $22,324 contract with Parking Lot Maintenance, Inc. to expand, seal and stripe the department’s parking lot. All three contracts were from the lowest bidder. The board also read a proclamation recognizing June as Dairy Month in the county. Finally, the board hear annual reports from the Finance and Health Departments, along with representatives from People Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse (PADA).
