The Rock at Jefferson is at 10.7 feet today, in the minor flooding stage. It’s expected to peak at 12 feet Sunday. The Rock at Fort Atkinson, in the action stage, is at 16.1 feet, and is now expected to peak at 16.5 feet Monday, in the minor flooding stage. And Lake Koshkonong is at 8.4 feet, and expected to hit the action stage of 9 feet Saturday, minor flooding at 10 feet Sunday, and peak at 11.2 feet by midweek. The Major flooding stage is 11.5 feet.
City of Jefferson Emergency and Administrative services are asking the public to once again be both aware and vigilant regarding the Rock and Crawfish River levels. Water levels are predicted to reach the minor flood stage of 10.9 feet by Sunday 03/15/2019 and current projections have the Rock River remaining at the level of 10.9 through Wednesday (03/20/2019). These projections are subject to change as weather forecasts are updated but it appears the slow melt and lighter rainfall totals are working in our favor, to this point.
City Officials anticipate the possibility of moderate impacts to portions of the City. These impacts may first be observed in the areas of East Riverview Drive and the areas of Main Street and Dane Streets. East Riverview Drive may be closed due to high water in the roadway near the Tensfeldt Park Boat Launch and Wastewater Treatment Plant. All City boat launches are closed as is Riverfront Park as well as Tensfeldt Park until further notice.
We are anticipating no disruption to any City of Jefferson services.
We would ask citizens to be patient when traveling and to NEVER drive through any areas with standing water.
All sump discharges should be directed to lawns and should not be directed to floor drains to minimize impacts on the wastewater treatment plant.
At this time the City has a limited supply of filled sandbags on hand. Empty sandbags are available at the Police Department and sand has been placed at the City Garage for residents to fill their own sandbags (there is no fee for the sandbags or sand at this time). Residents are responsible for placement of sandbags at their residences and are encouraged to take measures to protect their own properties. If your property is imminently threatened by flood waters contact City Hall or the Police Department after hours (numbers listed below).
