Plastic Costumes Used To Be Everywhere For Halloween

OMG, I was Casper the Friendly Ghost, Bugs Bunny, Spider-man, Yoda from The Empire Strikes Back and a few other characters. The simple vinyl costumes from makers like Collegeville Costumes, Halco, and Ben Cooper (being THE most famous) made preparing trick-or-treating easy. Rarely did they come with three or more pieces, but otherwise you had your plastic smock of an outfit and its accompanying mask. These were so easy and plentiful to find near Halloween time. All the super cool ones would get picked up quickly at K-Mart and Woolworth’s, and Ben Franklin, but there would still be something to find. Ben Franklin had a more diverse selection of products back in the 70’s and 80’s, not just fabrics, it was more like the Dollar Stores of today, just not as much stuff jammed into one location.

Anyway, I found a recent video (a trailer “Halloween in a Box) on Youtube about how popular the Ben Cooper/Halloween machine wowed kids every year. Enjoy!

And yes, that is me in the Bugs outfit 😉 -Eric
