Dane County Deputy Becomes First Wisconsin Law Officer Believed to Have Died From Virus

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says one of its deputies – 61-year-old Richard “Rick” Treadwell — has died from the coronavirus.  Treadwell had worked for the department for 25 years, most recently as a recruiter and trainer.

A release from Sheriff David Mahoney says the evidence indicates Treadwell contracted the virus while he was on duty.  It is believed he is the first Wisconsin law enforcement officer to die from COVID-19 which he contracted while on duty.

Treadwell is survived by a wife and three adult children.
